The Lab for Virtue Ethics is run by Ryan S. Olson, senior fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and research professor at the University of Virginia. Olson’s primary work on character and moral ecology is housed in the Colloquy on Culture and Formation at the Institute. Other work concerned with the formation of individual students and professionals in the virtues toward human flourishing finds a home in the Lab. A classicist trained at the University of Oxford, Olson uses the tools of philology, ancient history, and comparative history, and seeks to understand the implications of the formation and practice of the virtues in antiquity for educational practice and policy in the United States and beyond.
